No disrespect to "Saturday Night Live," but in terms of hit-to-miss ratio, "Chappelle's Show" has got it beat.

It's not exactly a fair competition.

Dave Chappelle's Comedy Central sketch series was only on from 2003 to 2004, not taking into account a brief run of "lost episodes" in 2006.

And the show's surprising end in its prime has only strengthened its reputation.

After reportedly being offered a $50 million contract for two additional seasons, thanks to incredible DVD sales, Chappelle walked away from the show's in-progress third season in 2005, mysteriously fleeing to South Africa.

In interviews with Time and Oprah Winfrey, Chappelle cited reasons such as burnout and discomfort with his fame and fortune. Nevertheless, his decision to quit the show that made him the hottest comedian at the time, and walk away from all of that money, has made him a fascinating character.
